Planting the Seeds of Anti-Oppression
June 29, 6pm – 8:30pm
Systemic imbalances of power exist in our society. Recognizing how these imbalances influence group dynamics is an important skill for facilitators, group members, and community members at large. Utilizing discussion and experiential learning, participants will reflect on their personal relationship to power and have an opportunity to broaden their perspectives on accessibility, allyship, inclusion, power, privilege, and how to move forward together.
Together Bettering Allyship
July 8, 10:00am-12:30pm
Through experiential learning and group discussions, participants will unpack the idea of “being an ally” and reframe our concept of allyship. We’ll explore our own roles and relationships with personal, positional, and institutional power and put theory into practice. This workshop is designed for participants with some to no experience with allyship and solidarity work, including those interested in furthering their understanding of allyship. Participants will examine their roles in addressing power dynamics and gain tools to level power imbalances. Participants will explore what we can do to become better practitioners of allyship and inclusive practices.
Nuts and Bolts of Facilitation
July 12, 4:00pm-6:30pm
Building off of the ideas introduced in “Planting the Seeds of Anti-Oppression” and “Principles of Peer Support”, this 2.5 hour workshop will delve into specific skills and techniques that assist facilitators in effectively creating safer, more supportive, and productive peer-led groups. Participants will build on new and existing skills and tools necessary for effective facilitation and touch on different facilitation models. This workshop is an introductory workshop and is open to folks with little or no facilitation experience as well as those with facilitation experience looking to brush up on their foundational skills.
