Social Justice Bus Tour
All Aboard!
Land Acknowledgment
We would like to humbly acknowledge that our project and our stories take place on the stolen homelands of the sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.
Much of the “history” we have access to has been written by colonizers, and the stories of the original inhabitants of these lands lost to both past and ongoing genocide. We believe that it is vital to social justice to not only remember precolonial and decolonial stories, but to support and defend decolonization as we create history.
Why is this important?

How should I use this resource?
Though this site maps out a lot of details and steps on how to make a social justice bus tour, it is based on the experiences of those who volunteer and work alongside PeerNetBC. We acknowledge that our experiences and backgrounds are not necessarily the same as yours.
This resource is meant to be used as suggestions and ways you could create your own bus tour. When looking through these steps, keep in mind our way is not necessarily the right way for you, your group or your community. We encourage everyone to use this site more as a guide when mapping out your own journey.
About Us
Vision
We envision a world where community members are empowered by their understanding of their local histories to challenge dominant narratives, create and implement solutions for local issues, and to develop deeper connections within and between communities.
Mission
As youth, our mission is to learn and share histories of resistance and injustice on the stolen and occupied homelands of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations in such a way that reframes our perceptions of ourselves, local communities, and places to inspire actions for justice.

Getting Started & Key Questions
Values & Frameworks

The values we chose provided a framework to check in if we were being accountable to ourselves, each other, and the communities we were working in.
Broad Questions
Why are we making this tour?
How will this project impact the community?
What is important to you as a group?
Are you all on the same page?
How do you get on the same page?
Specific Questions
Team

A group of like minded individuals coming together to become friends and create something beautiful. In the context of the bus tours, the team usually is a group of youth wanting to highlight stories with themes of social justice that aren’t usually told in a colonial classroom setting. The team takes many things into account throughout the process of developing a tour.
Broad Questions
Your history tour is only as strong as your team.
Who is part of the team? Why are they there? What do they need and want? How can you support them and let each team member shine?
Think about the best team dynamic you have ever had. What made it so successful? (communication, trust, shared vision, etc.)
