Summer Community Standard Series 2021

The Summer Community Standard Workshop is here — virtually!

Curious about peer led organizing and expanding your understanding of what facilitation means? Join us for 3 interactive virtual workshops in July! Each workshop is designed to work in tandem with the other, but there are no prerequisites.

Our facilitation work is grounded in our values of anti-oppression and we use this approach in all our workshops. If you are new to PeerNet BC workshops, we strongly suggest taking the Anti-Oppression workshop to understand the value of using this framework. We consider this workshop to be foundational!

More information:

  • These events will be held on Zoom
  • You are welcome to keep your microphone and and camera off through the workshop if you need to.
  • We welcome the use of the chat throughout the workshop.
  • ASL and closed-captioning available.

In addition to hosting our workshops online, we would like to take this space to also remind our readers that we are still working from home due to Covid-19. Phone calls may take longer than usual to receive a response to. We suggest emailing us at: info@peernetbc.com, if you need to contact us.

    Anti-Oppression

    July 13, 5:30 – 8:00 pm

Systemic imbalances of power exist in our society. Recognizing how these imbalances influence group dynamics is an important skill for facilitators, group members, and community members at large. In this 2.5 hour workshop, through discussion and experiential learning, participants will explore their own roles and relationships with power and have an opportunity to broaden their perspectives on accessibility, allyship, inclusion, power, privilege, and how to move forward together.

    Intro to Peer Support

    July 16, 9:30am – 12:00pm

Are you starting a new group, or is the group you work with needing a framework for understanding how you work together? The principles of peer support are the foundational elements for creating successful peer-led groups. In this 2.5 hour workshop, participants will be introduced to these principles, identify the differences between groups that are peer-led and those that are not, and learn how to create authentic and well-functioning peer support groups based on these principles.

    Queering Facilitation

    July 24, 10:00am-12:30pm

This workshop will invite and centre 2 Spirit, Gender and Sexually Diverse folks. Folks who are in allyship with queer, 2 Spirit and gender diverse people are welcome. Join us as we build on the skills needed to facilitate groups that can expand beyond gender binaries and roles! Through experiential activities, discussion, and dialog, we will share experiences and learn from each other. We hope to learn on how facilitators embody intersectional queerness, along with other different identities, when facilitating in groups.

Although we are gathering in a digital space, we would like to humbly acknowledge that our organization predominantly does our work on the stolen and unceded homelands and territories of sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xwməθ kwəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.
